Independence Day  14th August

14th August 1947.
The final stage of Independence  had one last tragedy. On 30. January 1948. Gandhi, deeply  disheartened by Partition and the subsequent  bloodshed  was murdered by Hindu fanatics.

  • Ganesh Chaturthi on the fourth day Bhadra - August/Sept.
  • Janmashtami - anniversary of Krishna's birth  -  August
  • Shravan Purnima -  fasting day , high  caste Hindu -  Sept.
  • Dussehra  the most popular  festival over 10 days - Sept./Oct.
  • Diwali or Deepavali   this is the happiest festival  over 5 days
  • Traditionally  the beginning  of a new financial year  - Oct./Nov.
  • Govardhana Puja  dedicated to the holly cow -  Nov.
